Data Engineer II

At Nium, we are revolutionizing the global payments industry where data sits at the core of everything. We are looking for a passionate and skilled Data Engineer to join our India-based team in Mumbai.

Your Mission

This is more than a purely technical role. You will help shape the future of our data platform as we migrate from on-premises systems to AWS cloud. Working hands-on with modern tools such as Airflow, Redshift, dbt, and Kafka, you will collaborate closely with product, engineering, analytics, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and optimize scalable, maintainable, and high-performance data pipelines and workflows.
• Ingest, transform, and deliver high-volume data from structured sources (MySQL) and real-time Kafka streams.
• Design and maintain performant data models in Redshift; optimize SQL queries for analytics reporting.
• Contribute to our cloud migration journey with new architectural ideas.
• Collaborate with cross-functional, globally distributed teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Embed data quality, reliability, observability, and security as first-class principles.
• Support mission-critical payments environments while continuously learning and raising standards in governance.

Requirements

• 2–3 years of professional experience in Data Engineering or a related role.
• Strong SQL expertise (query optimization, complex transformations).
• Solid Python skills for pipeline development.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services: Redshift, Lambda, Glue, S3, and Airflow.
• Familiarity with dbt for modern transformation practices.

Nice to Have

• Experience in large-scale cloud migration initiatives (AWS).
• Knowledge of real-time data streaming using Kafka.
• Certification or experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.
• Interest in AI/ML use cases within modern data ecosystems.
