Data Engineer II

McCormick is actively seeking a Data Engineer II for our operations in Gurgaon, India. This role is crucial in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining a range of data and analytics solutions, from basic to complex, to support various McCormick business units. The Data Engineer will be responsible for delivering and supporting analytics systems and tooling, researching new features, creating innovative automations, and collaborating with external vendors. A key aspect of this role involves partnering with Data Scientists and Data Analysts to translate business requirements into effective data solutions and models, enabling data-driven insights, reporting, and recommendations for stakeholders and executives. This position reports to the Azure Analytics Product Owner and requires close collaboration with the Enterprise Data Services team to build and refine an enterprise data management framework.

Key Responsibilities:

• Planning and Design: Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather analytics requirements. Design comprehensive solutions, including planning for data security, data quality, and performance requirements.
• Data Extraction, Load, and Transformation (ELT): Implement efficient ELT pipelines to ingest and transform data from diverse sources, delivering datasets that meet business needs. Ensure accurate and reliable data mapping.
• Performance and Cost Optimization: Identify and implement internal process improvements, including automation of manual tasks, optimization of data delivery, and redesigning solutions for scalability. Work with the Azure Analytics Product Owner to prioritize and schedule implementation efforts. Implement solution re-designs to enhance performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Process Improvement and Issue Resolution: Partner with Data Science, Machine Learning, and Business Analytics teams to optimize the performance and cost-effectiveness of their analytics solutions. Provide technical assistance to stakeholders with data-related issues and support their data requirements. Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve data errors or discrepancies in collaboration with the Analytics Operational Support team. Offer expert-level support and guidance to data teams across the enterprise. Recommend and introduce best practices in data engineering.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in data engineering.
• Demonstrated experience with the Azure Analytics toolset, including Data Factory, Synapse, Storage Accounts, and Key Vault.
• Proficiency in T-SQL, Python, and PySpark.
• Experience in performance tuning within the Azure analytics environment, covering areas such as parquet/delta files, SQL databases, data warehouses, ingestion tuning, and cache optimization.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with business stakeholders.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, particularly Azure DevOps.
• Familiarity with SAP and/or SAP BW is advantageous.
• Understanding of Power BI sufficient for seamless collaboration with Power BI Engineering and business Power BI developers.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps and Git.
