Data Engineer I, AIM Biz Ops AI

The Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) organization is seeking a motivated Data Engineer to join the Automated Inventory Management Team. In this role, you will contribute to building highly scalable services that manage inventory plans for millions of items on Amazon.com. You will work with complex algorithms, distributed computing, and big-data technologies to optimize supply chain management, particularly for emerging markets. We are looking for a candidate with a strong sense of ownership and a passion for delivering creative, large-scale solutions.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and deliver large-scale, distributed, real-time systems critical for supply chain business management.
  • Utilize technologies such as Java, Scala, object-oriented design patterns, NoSQL databases, and data modeling techniques.
  • Design petabyte-scale big-data processing solutions using the latest AWS services.
  • Gather and analyze business and functional requirements, translating them into technical design specifications.
  • Serve as a key technical resource throughout the entire development lifecycle.
  • Produce comprehensive and usable software documentation.
  • Recommend improvements to development, maintenance, and system standards.
  • Collaborate with Senior and Principal Engineers, Researchers, and Data Engineers across multiple teams to design software solutions for supply chain optimization.
  • Work within an agile development environment, prioritizing key tasks.

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries for large-scale, complex datasets.
  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS technologies including Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data visualization software such as AWS QuickSight or Tableau, or open-source visualization projects.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell, Scala).
