Data Engineer - SQL Server Expert in Hyderabad

Impact Makers is seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join a dynamic delivery team supporting a key client engagement in Hyderabad. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about understanding, engineering, and maintaining critical business data platforms, with a focus on the SQL Server ecosystem. You will play a crucial part in understanding existing systems, developing a strong contextual understanding, and taking ownership of data platform operations and evolution. Working collaboratively within an Impact Makers team, you will partner closely with client stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough investigations into existing data platforms, including architecture, data flows, and interdependencies.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of how data is modeled, processed, and utilized across the organization.
• Engage in insightful technical and business discussions to foster a shared understanding of data strategies.
• Translate learnings into actionable plans for system stabilization and enhancement.
• Data Engineering & Relational Databases: Design, develop, and maintain SSIS packages and SQL Server Agent jobs. Write and optimize SQL queries, including stored procedures, views, triggers, and functions. Work with relational data models, understanding the role of tables, keys, and relationships in supporting reporting and analytics. Optimize performance through indexing, statistics, execution plans, and query design. Support large and frequently accessed datasets with an emphasis on reliability and scalability.
• Reliability & Ongoing Support: Ensure predictable and consistent execution of data pipelines. Investigate and resolve data issues systematically and calmly. Implement durable improvements to minimize recurring issues. Strategically balance immediate fixes with long-term enhancements.
• Agile Delivery & Engineering Practices: Operate within an Agile delivery framework, actively participating in planning sessions and retrospectives. Utilize Git for version control and adhere to structured release processes. Facilitate the smooth deployment of changes across development, QA, UAT, and production environments. Take full ownership of tasks from inception to completion, prioritizing quality and follow-through.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively with client stakeholders in close partnership with the Impact Makers team. Clearly articulate data structures, dependencies, and potential impacts in easily understandable language. Collaborate with analytics, application, infrastructure, and platform teams.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience with SQL Server (on-premise).
• Advanced SQL proficiency, including performance tuning expertise.
• Hands-on experience with SSIS.
• Solid grasp of relational database concepts and data modeling principles.
• Experience supporting production data systems.
• Ability to quickly learn and build context within existing systems before implementing changes.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications (Bonus):

• Experience with SSAS.
• Working knowledge of Oracle / PL-SQL.
• Shell scripting for automation tasks.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience with Power BI for data visualization.
• Exposure to Snowflake data warehousing.
• Familiarity with open-source orchestration tools like Airflow.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar project management tools.
