We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated individual to join our engineering and analytics teams as a Software Development Engineer. This role is integral to a growing team focused on building world-class, large-scale Big Data architectures. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in programming principles, demonstrable experience in languages such as Java or Python, and will dedicate a significant portion of their time to coding.
Key Responsibilities:
Development Best Practices
- Act as a hands-on coder with substantial experience in programming languages like Python or Pyspark.
- Gain practical experience with the Big Data ecosystem, including technologies such as Hadoop, Mapreduce, Spark, Hbase, and ElasticSearch.
- Maintain a strong understanding of programming principles and development methodologies, including check-in policies, unit testing, and code deployment.
- Demonstrate initiative to quickly learn new concepts and technologies, translating them into scalable engineering solutions.
- Leverage excellent experience in application development, support, integration development, and data management.
Client Engagement
- Engage daily with clients from leading Fortune 500 companies to comprehend and address their strategic requirements.
Technology Advancement
- Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements to maximize return on investment for clients and Sigmoid.
- Apply hands-on coding skills with a deep understanding of enterprise-level code.
- Design and implement APIs, abstractions, and integration patterns to resolve complex distributed computing challenges.
- Utilize experience in defining technical requirements, data extraction, data transformation, automating and productionizing jobs, and exploring new Big Data technologies within a parallel processing environment.

Required Qualifications:
- A proven track record of relevant work experience, complemented by a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

- Proficiency in AWS services and experience working with APIs and microservices.

- Comfort and adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working within an agile methodology.
- Experience in database modeling and development, data mining, and data warehousing.
- Experience in the architecture and delivery of enterprise-scale applications, with the capability to develop frameworks and design patterns. Ability to understand and address technical challenges, propose comprehensive solutions, and mentor junior staff.
- Experience working with large, complex datasets from a wide array of sources.
