Job Overview
Amazon's Global Procurement Organization seeks experienced Data Engineers to build foundational infrastructure for generating deep insights into indirect supply management. This role leverages advanced data science for automation and decision-making within a brand-new initiative. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, relentless, and driven to collaborate with product managers, developers, and leaders. Success requires strong skills in database design, handling large and complex datasets, data warehousing, and building self-service data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and serving procurement data from various systems.
- Provide support for existing data infrastructure, including quality monitoring, alerting, and SLA tracking for critical business data feeds.
- Implement data models and table schemas aligned with established patterns in the data warehouse (Amazon Redshift / AWS Glue catalog).
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and analysts to understand data requirements and deliver reliable, well-documented data products.
- Contribute to data quality frameworks by writing validation logic, data contracts, and anomaly detection jobs.
- Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot pipeline failures impacting downstream procurement reporting.
- Embrace and apply data engineering best practices such as idempotency, backfill strategies, schema evolution, and partitioning.
Basic Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year of data engineering experience.
- Proficiency in data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
- Experience with at least one query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala).
- Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with big data technologies including Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and EMR.
- Familiarity with ETL tools such as Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, or Datastage.
- Knowledge of AWS Infrastructure.
