Are you an enthusiastic Data Engineer excited by the challenge of working with massive datasets and leading scalable data engineering solutions on AWS? Do you aspire to build next-generation tools for intuitive data access? Amazon's Finance Tech team is seeking a Data Engineer to shape the future of Amazon's finance data platform. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders across North America, Asia, and Europe to build a next-generation big data platform, projected to be one of the world's largest finance data warehouses. This platform will support Amazon's rapidly growing and dynamic businesses, enabling the delivery of BI applications that directly influence day-to-day decision-making. You will be challenged to innovate using the latest big data techniques. We are looking for a passionate data engineer to develop a robust, scalable data model and optimize data source consumption for accurate and timely reporting. You will share ownership of the technical vision and direction for advanced reporting and insight products, working alongside top-tier technical professionals on complex, large-scale systems with a focus on sustained operational excellence. Key Job Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and support a platform offering secure access to large datasets.
- Engage with tax, finance, and accounting customers to gather requirements and deliver comprehensive BI solutions.
- Collaborate with Finance Analysts to identify and promote best practices in reporting and analysis, including data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.
- Model data and metadata to support both ad-hoc and pre-built reporting needs.
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards crucial for driving key business decisions.
- Optimize application and query performance using profiling tools and AWS services.
- Analyze and resolve problems at their root, considering the broader business context.
- Gain a thorough understanding of Amazon's diverse data resources, knowing when, how, and which to utilize effectively.
- Stay abreast of advancements in big data technologies and conduct pilots to design data architectures that scale with increasing data volumes, leveraging AWS.
- Continuously enhance ongoing reporting and analysis processes, and automate or simplify self-service support for datasets.
- Navigate ambiguity by triaging potential courses of action, employing both quantitative analysis and business judgment.
Basic Qualifications:
- 1+ years of data engineering experience.
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
- Experience with at least one query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala).
- Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and EMR.
- Experience with ETL tools like Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, or Datastage.
