Amazon Payments Finance BI is seeking a highly quantitative and experienced Data Engineer to build and optimize a robust, scalable data model and data source consumption for accurate and timely financial reporting. This role is ideal for an organized, self-starting individual who can quickly learn new technologies and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will be a key contributor, developing analytics and insights for global executive management and business leaders to inform global strategies and deep dives.

While based in India, you will collaborate with global leaders and teams across Europe, Japan, the US, and other regions. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, resourcefulness, customer focus, teamwork, and the ability to work independently under time constraints. You should be comfortable with strategic thinking and detailed execution. A proven track record of end-to-end ownership and successful delivery in a dynamic business environment is highly preferred.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Implement and support an analytical data infrastructure using CDK-based deployments.
- Manage AWS resources including EC2, EMR, S3, Glue, and Redshift.
- Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from diverse sources using SQL and AWS big data technologies.
- Explore and adopt the latest AWS technologies to enhance capabilities and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with Business Intelligence Engineers (BIEs) and Data Scientists to promote best practices in reporting and analysis.
- Continuously improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers.
- Maintain and troubleshoot internal reporting platforms and tools, developing new features and clarifying user requirements to create report specifications.
- Partner with Engineering teams to shape and implement the development of BI infrastructure, including Data Warehousing, reporting, and analytics platforms.
- Contribute to the growth of BI tools, skills, culture, and impact within the organization.
- Develop solutions using advanced SQL queries and Python scripts.
A Day in the Life:
This role sits at the intersection of data, software, and analytics. You will leverage a comprehensive suite of AWS technologies, including S3, Redshift, Lambda, APIs, and Glue, often managed via CDK. You will drive the development process from initial design through to release.
About The Team:
The Amazon Payments (AP)-Finance-BI team is responsible for the automation and data platform that serves as the single source of truth for financial reporting across all Amazon Payments verticals. Our in-house tool supports finance reporting needs for P&L, OPEX, and headcount for actuals, planning, and quarterly guidance across all business verticals, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and reliability.
Basic Qualifications:
- 1+ years of data engineering experience.
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
- Proficiency in at least one query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala).
- Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, or EMR.
- Experience with ETL tools like Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, or Datastage.
