Full Job Description
Vsolutions Technologies is looking for a skilled Data Center Operations Engineer to join our Network Engineering team in Rancho Cordova, CA. You will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing our physical and logical data center infrastructure to ensure peak availability, performance, and safety.
Responsibilities:
- Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations: Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on critical data center systems (UPS, generators, PDUs, cooling/HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, backup systems).
- Monitoring: Track the performance and health of mechanical and electrical systems using various monitoring tools.
- Incident Management: Follow strict procedures for immediate communication, reporting, and escalation of data center technical or safety incidents.
- Hardware Deployment: Assist with or lead hardware installations (racks, servers, network equipment, cabling) and commissioning of new systems.
- Decommissioning & Changes: Execute decommissioning, simple changes (e.g., memory upgrades, cabling, firmware/OS rebuilds), and refreshes of infrastructure cabling, network, storage, and server equipment according to standard procedures.
- Validation & Testing: Validate and test new infrastructure components before integrating them into production.
- Standards Compliance: Ensure grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling adhere to safety protocols, deployment standards, and planned designs.
- Vendor Coordination: Manage third-party vendors, contractors, and service providers for maintenance, repairs, and system deployments, ensuring their work meets safety, quality, and SOP requirements.
- Improvement Proposals: Identify and suggest enhancements in automation, monitoring, energy efficiency, and redundancy to boost reliability and reduce operational costs.
- Audits & Compliance: Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and safety inspections.
- Reporting: Monitor, analyze, and report key metrics to senior leadership.
- Collaboration: Work closely with IT, network, security, and application teams to support infrastructure dependencies.
- On-Call Support: Participate in on-call rotations and respond to off-hours emergencies.
- Budget Tracking: Monitor budget and capital/operational expenditures.
- Documentation: Create and maintain SOPs, runbooks, configuration records, architecture diagrams, asset inventories, and change logs.
- Metrics Reporting: Generate periodic reports on uptime, capacity, and maintenance activities.
- Risk Management: Perform risk assessments, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions for failures or incidents.
- Change Management: Plan and execute change activities to minimize disruption.
- Communication: Maintain clear escalation paths and communication during incidents.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical/computer engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical career experience.
- Experience: 3–7+ years in data center or critical facility operations.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of power systems, cooling systems, and electrical distribution. Familiarity with DCIM/BMS systems. Hands-on experience with hardware/server/networking installation and troubleshooting.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and crisis management skills. Excellent documentation and communication skills. Vendor and project coordination experience.
- Availability: Ability to work in shifts and participate in on-call rotations.
- Certifications (Preferred): CDCP, Uptime Institute, or equivalent.
