Full Job Description
Latitude Private Client, a leading specialty Managing General Agency (MGA) focused on High-Net-Worth personal lines insurance, is seeking an experienced and driven Controller. This is a pivotal role where you will build, own, and scale the entire financial accounting, reporting, and control environment for our rapidly growing organization. You will be instrumental in shaping our financial future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the general ledger and manage the month-end and quarter-end close processes with precision.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including Profit & Loss (P&L), balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Manage complex accounting for premiums, commissions, and MGA fees.
- Perform reconciliations for premium trust and operating accounts to ensure financial integrity.
- Support financial reporting requirements for fronting carriers and reinsurance operations, including the preparation of bordereaux.
- Establish, implement, and maintain robust accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and other service providers.
- Continuously monitor cash flow, expenses, and key financial performance metrics.
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic scalability initiatives.
- Serve as the system owner for our accounting platform, ensuring optimal utilization and potential upgrades (e.g., Sage Intacct or equivalent).
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Demonstrated prior experience within the insurance industry, specifically in MGA, carrier, or wholesale brokerage environments.
- Strong understanding of insurance premium, commission, and trust accounting principles.
- Proven track record of hands-on ownership of the financial close and reporting cycle.
- Solid grasp of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal control frameworks.
- Experience effectively working with external auditors and strategic partners.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specific experience within an MGA or Excess & Surplus (E&S) insurance background.
- Previous experience in a startup or high-growth insurance platform environment.
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar modern accounting systems.
- Exposure to fronting carrier and reinsurance structures.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA-eligible status.
