Full Job Description
Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer for their Chennai, India office. This is a full-time, office/project-based role with relocation authorized for family. The successful candidate will perform assignments developing professional work knowledge and abilities through standard engineering techniques, exercising judgment within defined parameters. This role involves contributing to broader engineering assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Design Criteria for Controls and Instrumentation.
- Perform sizing calculations for Pressure Safety Valves, control valves, flow elements, and thermowells.
- Develop Instrumentation Specifications for Mechanical Packages and review vendor prints.
- Create specifications, Material Requisitions (MR), and review vendor prints for Analyzer Systems, Fiscal Metering, and Machine Monitoring Systems.
- Prepare Functional Safety Management Plans and Safety Requirement Specifications.
- Assist in developing or reviewing discipline material quantity estimates.
- Prepare Complex Loop Control Narratives, Cause and Effect Matrix for Process and F&G Systems, and logic narratives.
- Develop I/O databases for DCS, SIS, F&G, and Mechanical Vendor Packages.
- Prepare Instrument Indexes, Data Sheets, Wiring and Loop Diagrams, Loop Folders, and perform calculations using Smart Plant Instrumentation.
- Generate Technical Specifications, Data Sheets, Technical Queries, and Technical Bid Analyses (TBA) for various instruments like transmitters, temperature elements, and flow meters.
- Prepare Level Sketches and Cable Block Diagrams.
- Develop Instrument Installation Details, Bulk Material Takeoffs, and assist designers in modeling instruments, junction boxes, allocating remote I/Os, and cross-wiring between DCS and System Cabinets.
- Participate in 3D Model Reviews, Hazop, and SIL/LOPA Reviews.
- Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.

Education and Experience:
- B.Tech in Instrumentation & Control from a recognized university.
- For Level 1: 12-16 years of industry experience.
- For Level 2: 16+ years of industry experience.
- FEED, Engineering, and Design experience in Oil & Gas, Semiconductor, or Mining & Metal projects.
- TUV/Exida Certified Functional Safety Professional and Certified Cyber Security Professional are desirable.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Basic technical knowledge of Control System engineering in the Oil and Gas sector.
- Thorough understanding of discipline engineering techniques, engineered system design, and calculations.
- Knowledge of industry regulatory codes, standards, and design criteria.
- Broad understanding of engineering applications for plant constructability, construction methods, and materials.
- Familiarity with standard engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating.
- Job knowledge of various field instruments, DCS, PLC, and hazardous areas.
- Design experience or basic knowledge of DCS/PLC and SCADA networks, fiber optics, and CAT 6.
- Basic awareness of application programs such as SPI, Smart Plant, and Flowel.
- Basic awareness of industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the engineering discipline.
- Basic oral and written communication skills.
