Control Automation System Engineer - Noida, India
Join GE Vernova in Noida, India, as a Control Automation System Engineer and play a pivotal role in the design, implementation, and development of digital control systems for High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Control & Protection systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with diverse engineering disciplines within the HVDC business, contributing to solution and engineering centers for new product introduction (NPI), inquiry to order (ITO), order to remeter (OTR), and product care. You will be instrumental in developing organizational talent, managing engineering processes, providing technical guidance and mentorship, driving consistent design practices, and implementing common global processes for projects. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering technical solutions that meet NPI, project delivery, and tender objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the complete technical solution, ensuring it aligns with customer requirements based on reference solutions.
- Lead the requirement gathering, design, implementation, and testing of digital control systems for HVDC Control & Protection, including network and cybersecurity design.
- Configure IEC 61850 Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) using vendor-specific and system configuration tools for seamless system integration.
- Generate Substation Configuration Description Language (SCD) files for system integration.
- Apply knowledge of sequencing and interlocking principles in substation automation systems and their implementation on IEC 61850 IEDs.
- Lead the design, configuration, and testing of HVDC Control System hardware to meet project timelines and budgets.
- Test and debug complex IEC 61850 communication systems using industry-standard tools like IEDScout and Wireshark.
- Leverage experience with Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technologies, including implementation, testing, and installation.
- Coordinate and interface the HVDC Control System with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems.
- Define main Input/Output (IO) lists for the control system.
- Analyze signal interfaces to ensure compatibility with the control system.
- Collaborate with NPI teams to configure Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Bay Controllers (BCUs), and Merging Units for signal acquisition in digital substation environments.
- Lead the design of Local Area Network (LAN) architectures and configure industrial Ethernet switches, routers, and satellite clocks.
- Adhere to departmental standard design practices, engineering review processes, and guidelines.
- Define control panel requirements and produce detailed design documentation, including Panel Electrical Schematics (using Engineering Base tool), Wire/Cable Schedules, Routine Test specifications, General Assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Oversee testing and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) witnessing of the Control System.
- Prepare and present technical information on Substation Control Systems to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support site activities related to control system installation and commissioning.
- Foster the sharing of engineering information and promote open communication.
- Ensure proper documentation of all technical data generated for assigned projects, adhering to engineering policies and procedures.
- Coach and develop departmental talent.
- Drive continuous improvement of the product in terms of delivery speed, stability, and reliability.
- Review and approve design documents, ensuring quality deliverables are met on time and within budget targets.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong background in configuring Substation Bay Controllers, Merging Units, IEC 61850 IEDs, HMI, and SCADA technologies.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in control and protection system design.
- Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as IEC 61850 and Ethernet-based protocols.
- Proficiency in Control & Protection Relay logic design techniques.
- Experience in developing electrical designs for industrial control systems.
- Knowledge of communication network security/hardening and cybersecurity best practices.
- Excellent understanding of Layer 2 & 3 protocols including IPv4, OSPF, LACP, DMZ, VPN, DMS/ADMS, DNP, IEC, and Modbus.
- Relevant experience in electrical power systems and substation automation engineering.
- Working knowledge of industrial and utility electrical control and protection systems, Digital Control Systems, Substation Automation, and SCADA.
