The Port of Seattle is seeking an enthusiastic College Intern to join its Environmental Improvement Program, specifically supporting the South King & Port Communities Fund (SKPCF). This full-time summer internship offers an invaluable opportunity to gain practical experience in program coordination, robust stakeholder engagement, and effective project management. You will play a crucial role in advancing community-driven environmental initiatives throughout the South King and Port communities. This position is ideal for students or recent graduates passionate about environmental sustainability and community impact in the Seattle area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning Assistance: Support the program team in developing comprehensive timelines, key milestones, impactful presentations, and critical deliverables for various funded community projects.
- Stakeholder Engagement Participation: Aid in the organization of essential meetings, proactive outreach activities, and clear communications with diverse stakeholders, including community partners, local governments, and port-related organizations.
- Research and Continuous Improvement: Conduct in-depth research on innovative environmental strategies, evolving community needs, and established best practices. Translate these findings into practical, actionable recommendations. Actively share insights, solicit feedback, and refine program approaches to ensure initiatives remain responsive and highly effective.
- Contract Management Support: Assist in tracking and managing program contracts, which includes meticulous review of budgets, reporting documentation, and ensuring strict compliance with all contract guidelines and deliverables.
- Program Event and Workshop Logistics: Contribute to the planning and successful execution of community workshops, informative site visits, and engaging public engagement events.
- Communications and Outreach: Develop content for newsletters, promotional materials, and other outreach channels designed to effectively highlight program impact and community benefits.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or a recent graduate (within the last year) in a relevant degree program.
- Demonstrated commitment to Equity: Ability to apply equity principles and exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices in all work aspects.
- Deep commitment to Community: Ensure work actively reflects the voices, priorities, and lived experiences of the communities the program serves.
- Exceptional Project Coordination skills: Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively, ensuring tasks are completed on time and within scope.
- Strong Relationship-Building skills: Utilize clear, approachable communication to foster collaboration among stakeholders and maintain momentum towards shared goals.
- Analytical aptitude: Capacity to gather and interpret data that reflects local priorities and transform research findings into actionable insights.
- Excellent Communication/Storytelling skills: Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, crafting reports, presentations, and outreach materials tailored for diverse audiences.
- A valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, is required for local travel to project sites.
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as community events, workshops, or site visits may occasionally take place on evenings or weekends.
- Adherence to all work rules, safety protocols, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements is mandatory.
- Establish residency in Washington State within 30 days of the start date and maintain it throughout employment.
