Job Purpose

The Coder at Med-Metrix leverages their coding expertise to conduct thorough invoice reviews and provide critical guidance to the billing staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the revenue cycle.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive audits and coding reviews to verify the accuracy and precision of all documentation, including that from co-source partners.
• Assign and sequence appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes for services rendered, as required.
• Collaborate with billing staff and manage system work queues to ensure timely and proper payment of claims.
• Adhere strictly to all Medicare policy requirements, including current coding initiatives and guidelines.
• Independently manage assigned work queues efficiently.
• Maintain absolute confidentiality of all information at all times.
• Uphold a professional demeanor in all interactions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the management team.
• Utilize, protect, and disclose Protected Health Information (PHI) in strict accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
• Understand and comply with all Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures.
• Limit access to and viewing of PHI to the minimum necessary to perform assigned duties.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA.
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• A minimum of two years of coding experience relevant to the specific specialty (e.g., Inpatient DRG, Outpatient, Denials, Same-Day Surgery).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Ability to effectively use job-related software.
• Surgical coding experience is considered a significant advantage.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
• Excellent problem-solving and creative thinking abilities, coupled with sound judgment and decision-making based on accurate and timely analysis.
• High level of integrity and dependability, with a strong sense of urgency and results-oriented approach.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• A gracious and welcoming personality suitable for customer service interactions.

Working Conditions

• Physical Demands: Occasional need to move around the work area; ability to sit for extended periods; perform manual tasks; operate standard office equipment including computers, peripherals, and telephones; extend arms; kneel; communicate verbally and audibly.
• Mental Demands: Ability to follow directions, collaborate effectively with team members, and manage stress.
• Work Environment: Typically a minimal noise level.
