Cloud Engineer

Abbott Laboratories is seeking a Cloud Engineer in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, to join the Advanced Analytics team. This role reports to the Head of AA Product Development and is crucial for developing applications that leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support the company's advanced analytics needs. The Cloud Engineer will be instrumental in leading cloud initiatives, maintaining robust cloud infrastructure, and driving innovation in cloud technologies.

Key responsibilities include supporting the development and maintenance of company-wide frameworks and libraries that enable data-driven decision-making and create business value. The role involves ensuring data availability and accessibility, maintaining stable and scalable data science pipelines from exploration to deployment, and acquiring, ingesting, and processing data from various sources into the AWS cloud platform while ensuring data integrity and security.

The Cloud Engineer will collaborate with data scientists to map data fields to hypotheses and prepare data for advanced analytical models. A significant part of the role involves implementing and managing robust security measures for compliant data handling, aligning with Information Security, Cyber Security, and Data Privacy principles. Development and deployment of smart automation tools based on cloud technologies, aligned with business priorities, are also key tasks. The position requires overseeing the timely delivery of Advanced Analytics solutions and coordinating with team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals.

Collaboration with the Data Science team and AI Engineers to understand platform needs and develop supporting solutions is essential. The Cloud Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues within the AWS platform to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. Defining and documenting best practices for application deployment and infrastructure maintenance, as well as driving continuous improvement of the AWS Cloud platform, are also expected.

This role does not have direct or indirect reports. The Cloud Engineer is accountable for delivering targeted business impact per initiative in collaboration with key stakeholders, with significant responsibility for the architecture and management of Abbott's strategic cloud platforms and AI/AA programs.

Qualifications:

Minimum education required is a Master's degree in a relevant field such as computer science or electrical engineering.

Minimum experience required includes 3-5 years of relevant experience, with a strong track record in building solutions/applications using AWS services. Proven ability to work with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, extracting information and identifying linkages across disparate data sets. Proficiency in programming languages such as Javascript, Python, Scala, PySpark, or Java is necessary. Extensive knowledge of various database technologies, including distributed processing frameworks, relational databases, MPP databases, and NoSQL data stores, is required. A deep understanding of Information Security principles for compliant data handling and management, and significant experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS and its ecosystem, are essential.

Advanced knowledge of development in CI/CD environments, a strong background in data warehousing/ETL tools, and proficiency in DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Jenkins, Terraform) are required. Proficiency in serverless architecture and services like AWS Lambda, along with an understanding of cloud security best practices, is also necessary. The ability to understand business objectives and create cloud-based solutions, a result-driven, analytical, and creative mindset, and proven ability to work with cross-functional teams are expected. Fluency in English is mandatory.

Additional Technical Skills:

Experience with front-end frameworks, preferably React JS. Knowledge of back-end frameworks like Django, Flask, or Node.js. Familiarity with database technologies such as RedShift, MySQL, or DynamoDB. Understanding of RESTful API design and development. Experience with version control systems like CodeCommit.
