Backend Engineer

Hoichoi is seeking talented Backend Engineers to join their dynamic tech team in Kolkata, India. This pivotal role is central to the company's revenue infrastructure, encompassing critical areas such as payment orchestration, subscription lifecycle management, and high-scale backend systems. You will be instrumental in designing, deploying, and scaling systems that directly impact millions of users and drive significant revenue.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and scale backend services utilizing Node.js (MERN stack) and GoLang to manage payments, subscriptions, and user entitlements.
• Integrate and orchestrate various payment gateways including Stripe, Razorpay, and others.
• Design robust webhook systems capable of handling retries, duplicate events, and failures.
• Optimize MongoDB queries and Redis caching strategies for high-traffic scenarios.
• Architect systems prioritizing concurrency, low latency, and transaction scalability using Node.js and GoLang services.
• Implement solutions for reconciliation, settlement tracking, and advanced payment analytics.
• Take ownership of production reliability, proactively identifying and resolving issues, and driving fixes without explicit assignments.

Required Skills and Experience:

• A minimum of 14 years of backend development experience, with extensive production experience in Node.js (MERN stack).
• Demonstrable working experience with GoLang for backend services, APIs, or performance-critical applications.
• Proficiency in TypeScript with a strong emphasis on strict typing enforcement is highly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with payment gateway integrations such as Stripe, Razorpay, or Juspay.
• Proven experience in managing webhooks, asynchronous events, and designing idempotent payment flows.
• Solid understanding of MongoDB schema design and query optimization for large-scale applications.
• An AI-native developer profile, demonstrating active use of tools like Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code, with a critical approach to reviewing and refactoring AI-generated code.
• Excellent asynchronous communication skills, a proactive ownership mentality, a willingness to ask questions early, and a collaborative approach to pair-programming when necessary.
