Backend Engineer II

Role Overview

ASCENRA Technologies is building a DPDP Consent Manager that enables individuals to manage their consent and organisations to collect, manage and honour data-principal rights. As a Backend Engineer II (Senior Level), you will own the backend platform serving as an Individual Contributor or Lead.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the backend services supporting the complete consent lifecycle — notice, grant, review, renewal and withdrawal.
• Design and maintain append-only, tamper-evident consent and withdrawal records using technologies like ImmuDB or similar verifiable data stores.
• Build reliable event-driven systems using Kafka/MSK and idempotent consumers.
• Design PostgreSQL/Aurora data models with strong multi-tenant isolation for SaaS platforms.
• Develop and maintain versioned REST APIs using OpenAPI 3.0.
• Build and maintain microservices on AWS/ECS within a hybrid remote environment in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh (201311).
• Implement secure authentication and authorization using OAuth2, JWT/JWE and mTLS to solve challenging problems involving data privacy, security, auditability.
• Establish high standards for testing, CI/CD, observability and audit logging on AWS cloud infrastructure with cost considerations.
• Participate in architecture decisions and document technical decisions through ADRs independently.
• Review code, improve engineering practices, mentor junior backend engineers working with Node.js / TypeScript or Go.
• Support the transition and knowledge transfer from the existing external engineering partner.

Required Qualifications

• 6–8 years of experience building and running production backend systems with strong hands-on experience in Node.js/TypeScript or Go, along with PostgreSQL for data modelling and query optimisation.

• Production experience with Kafka or comparable event-streaming technologies for distributed systems architecture.
• Experience with microservices on AWS, preferably ECS, in a hybrid remote setup.
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code, observability and cloud cost considerations to build multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale.
• Hands-on experience implementing OAuth2, JWT/JWE and/or mTLS for secure authentication.
• Strong understanding of testing, CI/CD and software design practices including System Design principles.
• Ability to make and document architectural decisions independently in an early-stage environment where your technical choices directly shape the product.

Good to Have

• AWS certification and experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures in the fintech sector or privacy-tech category building a new rapidly developing domain in India.
• Experience in DPDP, privacy-tech, consent management or fintech; Experience with ImmuDB or other append-only/verifiable data stores to solve challenging problems involving data security and auditability.
