Backend Engineer - Gurgaon, India
Umanist NA is seeking a talented Backend Engineer for a full-time position in Gurgaon, India. This role is ideal for candidates who are immediately available or serving notice periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend microservices and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks.
- Contribute to building high-availability, fault-tolerant systems that support core e-commerce business operations.
- Enhance system observability and debuggability through monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing tools such as Grafana, Loki, and Pinpoint.
- Develop and execute unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure code reliability and production readiness.
- Write clean, modular, and maintainable code aligned with software engineering best practices.
- Continuously optimize backend applications for performance, scalability, and uptime.
- Participate actively in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture planning.
- Monitor live production environments, troubleshoot critical issues, and proactively improve system health.
- Collaborate closely with DevOps teams to support seamless deployment and CI/CD automation.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience in backend development using Java (8/11/17).
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures, and Algorithms.
- Solid expertise in Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and JPA/Hibernate.
- Experience working with MySQL or other relational databases; exposure to NoSQL databases is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, and asynchronous processing.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, and tracing tools such as Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, Pinpoint, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Microservices Architecture.
- Working knowledge of messaging systems including Kafka, RabbitMQ, or ActiveMQ.
- Proficiency with Git, Maven/Gradle, and CI/CD workflows.
- Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills.
- Strong communication abilities with a collaborative and ownership-driven mindset.
