Full Job Description
Uplers, in partnership with BON Credit, is seeking a Backend Engineer for a full-time, permanent remote position.
About BON Credit: BON Credit is an innovative fintech-lifestyle application targeting Gen Z and millennials in the US. It incentivizes positive financial habits, such as timely credit card payments, by offering rewards. BON Credit is building a premium, design-forward user experience and is backed by prominent global investors and advisors. The application is currently in its private beta phase.
Role Overview: We are looking for a skilled Backend Engineer who excels in fast-paced, early-stage startup environments. This role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of the backend architecture, APIs, and infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and AI teams to develop secure, scalable, and seamless systems that power BON's core functionalities, including reward mechanisms and credit integrations. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about building impactful consumer products, solving complex fintech challenges, and growing with an ambitious, high-caliber team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs and backend systems for the BON application.
- Architect secure, modular services capable of integrating with third-party fintech APIs (e.g., Plaid, Firebase).
- Collaborate with the frontend team to ensure smooth data flows and implement real-time updates.
- Develop event-driven logic and background jobs for managing reward tracking, referral programs, and other features.
- Set up and manage database schemas, optimize queries, and monitor performance.
- Write clean, testable, and well-documented code.
- Ensure backend services adhere to fundamental fintech security standards.
- Optimize existing codebase and processes for enhanced reliability and performance.
Requirements:
- 2-5 years of backend development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, with experience in Express.js or NestJS.
- Expertise in PostgreSQL (or another SQL database) and data modeling.
- Solid understanding of API development, JWT-based authentication, and role-based access control.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
- Proven experience integrating with third-party APIs.
- Comfortable with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and basic DevOps practices.
What We Value:
- Product-First Thinking: A focus on the 'why' behind development, not just the 'how'.
- Ownership: Taking full responsibility for code and delivering rapidly.
- Startup Mindset: Adaptability, iterative development, and proactivity.
- Security Consciousness: Prioritizing safety, privacy, and compliance in all aspects of work.
- Clean Communication: Clearly articulating trade-offs, challenges, and progress.
This is a remote opportunity for candidates based in India. The role requires working within the Asia/Kolkata (IST) time zone (GMT+05:30).
