Backend Engineer

Calyptus, a company focused on revolutionizing the travel industry through technology, is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join their team in Delhi, India. This role is integral to developing the technical backbone of a cutting-edge travel platform. The successful candidate will leverage Java and Spring Boot to design and implement scalable, resilient backend services. Key responsibilities include working with databases such as MySQL, MongoDB, and ElasticSearch to power critical functionalities like search, personalization, and booking flows. Familiarity with Linux systems, AWS, and microservices architecture is essential for building and deploying reliable systems at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and scale backend systems using Java and Spring Boot.
• Create low-latency search infrastructure utilizing ElasticSearch, caching, and query optimization techniques.
• Build and maintain robust supplier integrations for hotels, chains, and experiences, ensuring stability and fault tolerance.
• Implement real-time personalization and ranking logic to enhance customer discovery and improve booking conversion rates.
• Enable AI-powered experiences by developing APIs, data pipelines, and scalable systems that support recommendations, personalization, and conversational interfaces.
• Develop and maintain database schemas, queries, and stored procedures for MySQL, MongoDB, and ElasticSearch.
• Deploy and optimize services on Linux and AWS environments, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and API Gateway.
• Implement and evolve microservices architecture, designing APIs for seamless inter-service communication.
• Monitor backend systems in production, troubleshoot issues, and deliver timely fixes.
• Collaborate effectively with product, growth, and engineering teams to translate customer needs into robust backend solutions.
• Participate actively in code reviews, debugging, and documentation to maintain high standards of quality and maintainability.
• Stay abreast of new backend and AI technologies, contributing innovative ideas for system enhancement and scalability.

Candidate Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 2 to 5 years of backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong proficiency in relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB), with the ability to design efficient schemas, queries, and stored procedures.
• Familiarity with ElasticSearch and a genuine interest in building low-latency search systems.
• Hands-on experience with Linux systems and the deployment/maintenance of backend services in production environments.
• Proven experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway) and cloud-native deployment strategies.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and demonstrated experience in designing and implementing APIs for service communication.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
