Backend Engineer

Roku is seeking a Backend Engineer in Bangalore to join our advertising technology team. You will build cutting-edge infrastructure powering sustainable and profitable advertising campaigns. This role involves owning server technologies, data management, cloud services, and testing capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and operate APIs and system components for segment management, business and analytics automation, and maximizing advertiser campaign ROI.
• Leverage big data technologies (Hive/Trino, Spark, Cassandra, Kafka) to manage massive daily data ingestion (tens of terabytes) and petabyte-scale data warehouses.
• Collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, and fellow engineers to deliver impactful solutions.
• Continuously learn and adapt to emerging technologies and industry trends in advertising technology.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
• Over 10 years of professional software development experience.
• Proven experience building REST services and API frameworks.
• Proficiency in writing efficient SQL queries for data analysis and problem-solving.
• Ability to translate reporting requirements into production-ready data processing pipelines.
• Strong command of Python, Java, or Scala for daily development.
• Deep understanding and practical experience with distributed computing frameworks like Hive/Hadoop and Apache Spark.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as Aerospike, Cassandra, or ScyllaDB is advantageous.
• Experience with cloud platforms like GCP and/or AWS is a plus.
• Knowledge of JavaScript, Node.js, and React is desirable.
• Experience deploying services on Kubernetes is beneficial.
