The Role

Join us as a Backend Engineer (AI) to build the core systems that bring advanced AI into production. You will help make visa processing faster and simpler for travelers around the world by developing Python-based backend services, implementing reinforcement learning loops, scaling async workflows for peak demand, and owning end-to-end system design with robust testing and observability.

The Job

• Build AI-native backend services in Python that orchestrate LLMs, agents, and tool calls across core product workflows.
• Develop evaluation frameworks and reinforcement learning loops to measure model quality on real-world visa processing tasks, utilizing techniques like reward modelling, RLHF/RLAIF, and fine-tuning to continuously improve agent performance.
• Scale systems for high volume and cost efficiency using async, event-driven architectures that handle peak demand while optimizing latency and token consumption.
• Take ownership of systems from design through production, ensuring strong testing practices, monitoring, observability, and continuous evaluation.

The Ideal Candidate

You will thrive if you have:

• 4-7 years of backend engineering experience with hands-on work building and running LLM-powered features in production environments.
• Exceptional strength in Python, including async patterns, having shipped services using frameworks like FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
• Hands-on experience with major LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) and building blocks such as prompt design, tool calling, structured outputs, RAG, and vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate).
• Knowledge of how to evaluate and harden AI systems through eval datasets, observability tools like Langfuse or LangSmith, and understanding the trade-offs between accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Solid fundamentals in databases (PostgreSQL), caching (Redis), message queues (Kafka, SQS, Celery), cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with agent frameworks (LangGraph, LlamaIndex), fine-tuning, reinforcement learning (RLHF/reward modelling), self-hosted models, browser automation (Playwright), or building in regulated domains like fintech/travel.
