Backend Engineer

Uplers is seeking a Backend Engineer for their client, Bon, a U.S.-based fintech-lifestyle app targeting Gen Z and millennials. Bon rewards positive financial behavior and is building a premium, design-forward experience with backing from global angels and advisors. The role is for a Full-time Permanent Position, operating remotely within India (preferred).

About the Role:

We are looking for a skilled Backend Engineer with 2-5 years of experience who can take full ownership of backend architecture, APIs, and infrastructure in a fast-paced, early-stage environment. You will collaborate directly with product, design, and AI teams to build secure, scalable systems powering BON's core features, including rewards logic and credit integrations. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to meaningful consumer products and solve real-world fintech challenges alongside an ambitious team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs and backend systems.
• Architect secure, modular services for integration with third-party fintech APIs (e.g., Plaid, Firebase).
• Collaborate with the frontend team on data flow and real-time updates.
• Implement event-driven logic and background jobs for features like reward tracking and referral programs.
• Manage database schemas, optimize queries, and monitor performance.
• Write clean, testable, and well-documented code.
• Ensure backend services adhere to basic fintech security standards.
• Optimize existing codebase and processes for reliability and performance.

Requirements:

• 2-5 years of backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js with Express or NestJS.
• Expertise in PostgreSQL (or any SQL DB) and data modeling.
• Solid understanding of API development, JWT-based authentication, and role-based access control.
• Familiarity with AWS.
• Experience integrating with third-party APIs.
• Comfortable with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and basic DevOps practices.
