Roland: Senior FullStack Engineer - Backend Heavy (TypeScript/Python)

WPP Open is our state-of-the-art,AI-enabled marketing operating system, utilized by leading brands and agencies worldwide. Our Gurugram-based engineering teams design, build, and maintain this platform alongside global colleagues in the UK and Europe.

About The Role:

You will own a critical component or service from concept to production. While backend-centric,
you are expected to also develop React interfaces for your features.
Your work involves rigorous code quality, mentorship of junior engineers, and leading incident triage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Backend Development:
  

Designing production-ready services using strictly typed TypeScript (Node.js/NestJS/Fastify) or Python. Implementing runtime validation with Zod/Pydantic and managing concurrency to prevent blocking issues.

• AWS & Infrastructure:Architecting serverless solutions on AWS Lambda, defining boundaries for cost efficiency, and deploying containerized workloads via Kubernetes (Helm). Building robust CI/CD pipelines using CDK or SAM.

• Data Engineering:
  

Designing scalable PostgreSQL schemas without downtime. Tuning queries for performance. Modeling data efficiently in DynamoDB and MongoDB, leveraging Redis for caching strategies to optimize read/write operations.

• Reliability & Async Systems:Implementing asynchronous messaging with SQS, BullMQ/Celery. Configuring dead-letter queues and retry mechanisms to ensure at-least-once delivery of critical events.

AI-First Engineering:

Integrating AI features using Anthropic and OpenAI APIs. Managing tool calling, structured outputs for reliable data extraction, and tracking token usage/costs to optimize LLM interactions.
Maintaining MCP servers that expose service capabilities directly to autonomous agents.

Testing & Quality:

Practicing Test-Driven Development (TDD). Writing comprehensive unit, integration, and contract tests using Playwright for E2E validation. Leveraging Testcontainers for isolated test environments.
Maintaining flake-free test suites.
