Associate Engineer

PayPal is seeking a customer-focused Backend Engineer with expertise in Ruby on Rails to design, implement, and deliver state-of-the-art payment solutions for PayPal's Growth Markets. As a Backend Software Engineer at PayPal, you will be instrumental in architecting our global payment platform. You will design, develop, and optimize core systems that process millions of daily transactions, directly influencing customer experiences and company success. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining robust backend components, writing clean and efficient code that adheres to established standards, and actively participating in code reviews to provide constructive feedback.

We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, and at least 2 years of backend development experience with a strong understanding of programming concepts and data structures. Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Python, or Ruby on Rails is required. Experience with Java EE technologies including Java, application servers, servlet containers, JMS, JPA, Spring MVC, and Hibernate is essential. A solid understanding of web services and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) standards like REST, OAuth, and JSON, particularly within Java environments, is also crucial. Experience with ORM tools like Hibernate and databases (SQL, NoSQL) is necessary.

Preferred qualifications include experience with large-scale, high-performance systems, knowledge of the payment processing industry and its regulations, and familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. Contributions to open-source projects are a plus.
