Associate Engineer

About the Role

Caterpillar's CAT Technology in Chennai/Bengaluru is seeking an AI/ML Engineer with strong foundational knowledge in mathematics, machine learning, and programming. This role is pivotal in supporting various Caterpillar product groups by developing Reduced Order Models (ROMs) to accelerate design evaluation and component optimization.

You will be instrumental in building performance tools, developing a digital platform to integrate diverse data sources, and collaborating with a global, multidisciplinary engineering team. Your responsibilities will include defining ROM requirements, setting performance constraints, and applying physics and data analytics to achieve optimized and robust product designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize product development cycles utilizing AI/ML techniques.
• Create methodologies to accelerate simulation processes.
• Identify opportunities for workflow improvements.
• Communicate technical information effectively to customers, team members, suppliers, and other business units.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in an accredited Engineering field such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Machine Learning, Mechanical, Automobile, or Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience: 2-3 years of specific experience in AI/ML.

Required Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python; knowledge of C++ is a plus.
• Solid understanding of the statistics, linear algebra, and probability underlying ML algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow.
• Proven experience implementing ML algorithms with a clear understanding of their core concepts.
• Knowledge of neural networks, including CNNs and LSTMs, with the ability to code models.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background or familiarity with mechanical engineering concepts.
• Experience with chatbots, Large Language Models (LLMs), or other AI applications.
