Full Job Description
Join Bain & Company's Bain Capability Network (BCN) Sustainability Center of Excellence as an Associate AI/ML Engineer. This pivotal role contributes to high-impact AI and ML-driven solutions for internal tools and strategic initiatives. You will lead discrete ML workstreams and proof-of-concept (POC) projects, support complex digital builds under senior guidance, and deliver rigorous, data-driven outputs.
Your responsibilities will span various digital initiatives, including ML model development, Generative AI (GenAI) integration, workflow automation, experimentation frameworks, and AI-enhanced product features. You will apply strong technical and analytical skills to transform structured problems into scalable AI solutions. A solid technical foundation, comfort with diverse data types, and the ability to operationalize ML/GenAI models are essential.
What You'll Do
- AI / ML Development & Analysis: Lead ML or GenAI workstreams with a focus on technical quality. Translate business and product requirements into actionable ML-driven analytical solutions. Perform comprehensive data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model experimentation. Develop, train, evaluate, and refine ML models for POCs and internal applications. Proactively identify risks, technical trade-offs, and performance limitations, proposing alternative solutions.
- GenAI & Model Integration: Utilize advanced prompt engineering techniques (e.g., structured, few-shot, system prompts) tailored to specific use cases. Integrate GenAI APIs (such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI) into applications and workflows. Combine LLM outputs with structured logic, APIs, and backend services. Evaluate model outputs for reliability and bias, iterating to enhance performance and usability.
- Technical & Automation Capabilities: Build and maintain scalable ML pipelines and experimentation frameworks. Support API-based deployment and integration of AI models into digital tools. Employ coding and automation tools, particularly Python, to optimize workflows. Explore and implement emerging AI capabilities to drive project efficiency and innovation.
- Collaboration & Teaming: Work closely with engineers, designers, and business stakeholders in a dynamic environment. Independently manage defined workstreams while supporting larger digital initiatives under senior direction. Clearly communicate technical findings to non-technical audiences.
About You
- Possess a Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 1-2 years of experience.
- Hold an educational background in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Demonstrate strong applied academic or project-based ML/AI experience.
- Prior experience with consulting firms is advantageous but not mandatory.
Skills & Expertise
- Proficiency in Python.
- Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or similar.
- Solid understanding of model evaluation, experimentation, and data preprocessing techniques.
- Working knowledge of GenAI tools and LLM integration.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to translate technical findings into practical business insights.
- Ability to comprehend and integrate business and sector-specific language into daily work.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, suitable for fast-paced, team-based consulting environments.
- Sharp business acumen, with the ability to make informed decisions and demonstrate an understanding of sustainability markets/sectors and the operational nuances of consulting firms.
