Area Manager - Operations I

Roles within Operations Manager I Job Family

Area Manager

Based in fulfillment centers or office premises, this role requires on-floor observation, process audits, and associate coaching. Key activities include:

  • Frequent walking within the fulfillment center and surrounding areas.
  • Sustained periods of standing and walking.
  • Ability to work in potentially noisy, unlit, and non-airconditioned construction or distribution environments.
  • Safe and unrestricted access to all areas of the building, including ascending/descending ladders and stairs.
  • Extensive data analysis to identify trends and drive Kaizen activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure operational success and manage diverse stakeholders.
  • Participation in leadership review meetings such as Daily Deep Dive and Site Business Review to make decisions on site improvement parameters.
  • Implementation of quality best practices like 5S.
  • Mentorship and motivation of the hourly workforce.
  • Management of safety, quality, productivity, and customer delivery promises.
  • Collaboration with support teams including Safety, Engineering, Loss Prevention, Quality Assurance, and Human Resources to achieve business objectives.

Operations Manager

  • Focus on reducing customer/seller service contacts.
  • Analyze concessions and defects to improve customer experience.
  • Shadow seasoned managers to gain on-floor operational knowledge and execute shifts independently.
  • Develop methods to track and improve partner (carrier and 3P) performance.
  • Address transportation and supply chain issues in new geographies.
  • Conduct market and competitive analysis for transportation parameters, develop, and pilot operating plans for performance improvement.
  • Identify and prevent financial leakage with partners.
  • Enhance the customer returns experience.
  • Drive process improvements to boost operational efficiencies or quality metrics in fulfillment centers, transportation, or customer service.
  • Analyze and create mechanisms to improve third-party seller order fulfillment.
  • Improve fulfillment center processes and metrics by collaborating with retail, FBA, customer service, and transportation teams.
  • Oversee data processing, quality supervision, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Station Manager

  • Define transportation processes from fulfillment centers to delivery stations.
  • Provide practical input to Centralized Routing teams for optimizing delivery routes.
  • Ensure sufficient capacity within the citywide delivery team for peak time management.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and mentor station supervisors for efficient operations.
  • Continuously improve delivery processes for sustained performance gains.
  • Analyze data reports to identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements.
  • Implement formal process control and improvement mechanisms such as Kaizen.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year of employee and performance management experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or a minimum of 2 years of Amazon (blue badge/FTE) experience.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Capability to push and pull wheeled dollies loaded with products up to 100 pounds during shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience with performance metrics, process improvement, or Lean techniques.
