Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

The Role:

In this position, you will ensure the reliability, availability, performance, and operability of production systems across our AI platforms and hosted applications. You will apply software engineering principles to operational challenges with a focus on automation, observability, and proactive management. At Virtusa in Hyderabad, we treat reliability as a feature measured objectively, improving it continuously through best practices rather than reactive support.

You will collaborate closely with product engineering and platform teams to enable safe deployments at scale and foster a blameless culture for learning from incidents. The role includes participation in our global on-call model supporting production systems across multiple time zones.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own and improve the reliability, availability, and performance of critical production services.
• Operate and evolve large-scale production cloud infrastructure primarily on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Participate in incident management covering detection, triage, mitigation, escalation, and recovery.
• Design, implement, and operate observability solutions including monitoring, logging, tracing, synthetics, and dashboards using tools like Splunk Observability and OpenTelemetry.
• Define, monitor, and report SLIs (Service Level Indicators), SLOs (Objectives), and error budgets for critical services.
• Reduce operational toil through automation and engineering-led solutions.
• Contribute to production readiness reviews, capacity planning, and deployment safety mechanisms.
• Perform root cause analysis and lead blameless post-incident reviews.
• Communicate complex technical issues clearly to engineers, stakeholders, and leadership.

Requirements:

Must Haves:

• Strong experience with cloud-native concepts and technologies, preferably on GCP.
• Hands-on experience operating production cloud infrastructure at scale.
• Proven experience with incident management using platforms such as ServiceNow.
