Applied Machine Learning Engineer

About the Role
XTEN-AV is seeking a dedicated and skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our innovative team. This role is ideal for individuals with hands-on experience in tackling real-world machine learning challenges from inception to deployment. You'll be instrumental in understanding complex problems, handling diverse datasets, and developing practical modeling solutions, with a strong emphasis on applied ML principles rather than solely relying on pre-built AI tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Deconstruct ambiguous problem statements into actionable ML approaches.
• Design, train, and rigorously evaluate machine learning models using real-world datasets.
• Conduct thorough data preprocessing, feature engineering, and exploratory data analysis.
• Iteratively refine models based on performance metrics, project constraints, and user feedback.
• Develop and implement lightweight Python-based APIs and services to integrate ML solutions into our product workflows.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to ensure the successful deployment of robust ML systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code adhering to best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in Machine Learning or Applied ML roles.
• A deep understanding of core ML fundamentals, including supervised and unsupervised learning, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
• Demonstrated experience working with real-world datasets, moving beyond academic exercises.
• Excellent Python programming proficiency, with the ability to code independently.
• Proven ability to manage and process messy, incomplete, or noisy data effectively.
• Strong analytical skills for problem-solving and iterating towards effective solutions.
• Experience in building simple APIs or data pipelines for ML models.

Nice to Have

• Experience in computer vision, document processing, or structured data extraction.
• Exposure to deep learning techniques such as CNNs and transformers.
• Familiarity with experimentation workflows and model iteration strategies.
• A basic understanding of system design and scalability principles.
• Previous experience in product-focused companies or startup environments.
