Applied AI Engineer

About the Role

Amcor is hiring an Applied AI Engineer to accelerate R&D innovation by applying AI solutions that improve decision-making and engineering productivity. You will develop scalable knowledge systems, support responsible adoption of emerging technologies like generative AI and retrieval-augmented generation, and help shape our global organization's AI strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy AI-enabled knowledge systems connecting structured and unstructured enterprise data to make technical information accessible.
• Deliver AI-assisted decision-support for material selection, construction design, and product validation to improve speed, quality, and consistency.
• Solve meaningful business problems using predictive modeling, intelligent automation, and generative AI solutions selected based on value and scalability.
• Establish testing and monitoring practices ensuring reliability, transparency, and alignment with responsible AI principles.
• Evaluate emerging technologies (retrieval, genAI, ML) translating them into practical R&D applications.
• Build data structures, semantic layers, metadata, and retrieval mechanisms enabling effective interpretation of unstructured information.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert encoding domain knowledge—schema semantics, units, relationships—into AI infrastructure to ensure answer correctness.
• Identify and close data gaps blocking AI capabilities while partnering on ingest pipelines with IT functions.
• Define information architecture and governance ensuring machine-interpretable knowledge remains reusable across applications.
• Assess security exposure and cost before extending model access; align capabilities with global R&D processes.
• Partner to make advanced models accessible, explainable, and actionable for end users.
• Collaborate with engineers on actual design workflows rather than demonstrations alone.
• Drive adoption through stakeholder engagement, change management, and clear measurement of business impact.
• Work cross-functionally with IT, Security, Legal on responsible deployment, data protection, residency, and acceptable use policies.
