Application Reliability Engineer

Graviton Research Capital, a leading quantitative trading firm in Gurgaon, India, is seeking a skilled Application Reliability Engineer. This is a crucial role as the first line of defense for ensuring the utmost reliability, availability, and performance of our critical databases, services, and trading support systems. You will be instrumental in monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues, while also taking ownership of building automation, enhancing system observability, and driving the long-term stability of our mission-critical infrastructure. Collaboration will be key as you work closely with our development, trading, and infrastructure teams to efficiently triage issues, manage deployments, and continuously refine our operational workflows. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical support background, a genuine passion for problem-solving, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor production services and respond promptly to alerts, incidents, and outages to guarantee seamless operation and minimize downtime.
• Oversee the monitoring of trading systems and infrastructure.
• Triage issues across trading support services, databases, and infrastructure; expertly escalate and coordinate with the appropriate owners, driving root-cause analysis and ensuring the implementation of fixes for sustained stability.
• Serve as the primary point of contact and first line of defense for trading operations.
• Proactively identify and address recurring issues, developing automation solutions to minimize manual intervention.
• Enhance system observability through improvements in monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive operational runbooks and Service Level Objective/Service Level Agreement (SLO/SLA) metrics.

Requirements:

• Possess a degree in a highly analytical field such as Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
• Up to 2 years of experience in Python and Shell/Bash scripting.
• Proficient experience with Linux and associated shell online tools.
• Hands-on experience with databases, including both SQL and NoSQL technologies.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain a calm and analytical approach under pressure in production environments.

Good to have:

• Familiarity with common monitoring and alerting stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack.
• Understanding of distributed messaging systems like Kafka and caching systems like Redis.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Previous experience in a support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or production engineering role.
