Role Overview

We are hiring Mid to Senior Level Android Developers for a long-term European railway digitalisation project with Balstern Digital.

About the Project

You will help build and launch a new critical Android application designed specifically for train drivers, providing essential journey information and real-time driving advice. Working alongside our seasoned Android Lead and expert engineering teams based in Europe, you will develop an application where reliability, intuitive interfaces, and robust offline functionality are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

• Write, test, debug, and maintain production-grade Android code using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Build responsive tablet interfaces from Figma designs utilizing reusable components and adaptive layouts.
• Implement predictable UI state management, navigation patterns, and lifecycle-aware behaviour using ViewModel, Coroutines, Flow/StateFlow.
• Develop advanced local persistence solutions for caching, offline functionality, reconnection logic, and recovery flows.
• Integrate backend services and partner components, including real-time communication protocols and secure authentication mechanisms.
• Contribute to modular architecture decisions, participate in technical discussions, and lead peer code reviews.
• Create comprehensive unit tests and UI tests (JUnit, MockK, Espresso), investigate crashes and performance bottlenecks, and support CI/CD pipelines for release delivery.
