AI Software Engineer

We are seeking an AI Engineer / Software Engineer (Backend) for a fully remote position anywhere in Europe. This role offers a competitive salary of up to £135k / €155k and equity of up to 0.2%, currently valued at $250k and projected to grow significantly. Join a dynamic, AI-native cybersecurity SaaS startup building advanced AI agents to detect and resolve cloud vulnerabilities at enterprise scale. With over $30m in Series A funding and a growing team of approximately 40, we are at the forefront of autonomous cybersecurity solutions.

Our company develops autonomous agents that go beyond simple alert classification. These agents are designed to investigate and remediate cloud vulnerabilities by reading vulnerability documentation, running tools against real infrastructure, assessing exploitability in context, determining business impact, and recommending concrete remediation steps. Our customers are experiencing remarkable reductions in vulnerability noise, often between 80-90%.

This is a production-focused role, not an ML/AI research position. You will be instrumental in bringing AI systems to life in the real world, handling vast amounts of data and tackling complex problems at enterprise scale. Your responsibilities will include designing and scaling LLM-powered agents for live cloud environments, architecting backend systems for agent orchestration, evaluation, and reliability, and building production-grade services that integrate AI with deterministic systems. You will also focus on enhancing the reliability, observability, and cost-efficiency of AI systems, optimizing distributed workloads, and contributing to customer-facing remediation tooling, with opportunities to expand into AppSec.

Must-have requirements:

• Strong software engineering foundation with mastery of Python.
• Proven experience building and deploying LLMs or AI-agent systems in production.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and scalability considerations.
• Extensive AWS expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and build solutions from first principles.

Bonus points for:

• Previous experience in large tech companies handling massive data volumes or in rapidly scaling startups.
• Founding engineer experience.
• Domain expertise in AI and/or Cyber Security, particularly in vulnerability management.
• Familiarity with agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, DSPy, custom orchestration layers).
• Experience with evaluation frameworks, tracing, and observability for LLM systems.
• Experience scaling systems under significant real-world load.
