AI Engineer

Role Overview

Makai Labs develops software that automates entire companies. We are seeking an AI Engineer to build next-generation AI systems for large-scale enterprise automation. This role involves deep collaboration with engineering and design teams to prototype, ship, and continuously improve our suite of AI-powered products and internal tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and refine high-performance AI applications and proprietary internal tools.
• Rapidly prototype, experiment, and iterate across diverse client and internal projects to drive innovation.
• Implement sophisticated workflows leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation systems, autonomous agents, and structured output formats.
• Contribute to shared platform architecture, developing reusable tooling that scales with our business needs.
• Elevate prototypes into reliable, client-ready production systems.
• Lead research initiatives, benchmarking studies, testing protocols, and rigorous evaluation of emerging AI approaches.
• Take ownership of smaller projects or sub-projects, receiving strategic guidance from senior team members to ensure alignment with business goals.
• Maintain clear, comprehensive internal documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and technical excellence.
