Your Impact in this Role
As a key member of our technology organization in Gurgaon/Gurugram, India, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and enhancing the platforms and systems that power American Express's artificial intelligence, data, and decisioning capabilities. You will contribute to initiatives that integrate modern engineering practices, large-scale data processing, and automation to deliver robust, secure, and impactful solutions that drive tangible business outcomes.
Collaborate with talented engineers, data scientists, and product teams to architect scalable systems, develop reusable frameworks, and optimize platform efficiency. Responsibilities
- Execute technical aspects of software development, including design, prototyping, and coding for assigned applications.
- Lead hands-on architecture, design, and development of systems.
- Promote consistent development practices regarding tools, common components, and documentation.
- Dedicate approximately 80% of your time to coding and testing, with the remaining time spent collaborating with stakeholders on product/platform releases.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of interdependencies with other Amex systems and platforms within your domain.
- Continuously refactor code, utilize visualization techniques to accelerate concept development, and drive ongoing improvements.
- Identify and advocate for the adoption of innovative technologies.
- Provide sustained support for application availability.
- Partner with product owners to prioritize features for sprints and manage technical requirements based on industry trends, new technologies, and defect remediation.
- Research and apply emerging technologies to develop functional software.
- Debug software components and identify code defects for resolution.
- Deploy, support, and monitor software across various environments, including test, integration, and production.
- Implement automated application scaling based on demand forecasts.
- Inspire team members with innovative changes and improvements by challenging the status quo and embracing calculated risks.
- Demonstrate increasing self-sufficiency in achieving team objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of software development experience, with proven hands-on experience in building data-driven products.
- Solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, complexity analysis, problem-solving, and diagnosis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java or Python, with a willingness to learn new languages.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix tools.
Critical Factors to Success
Technical/Platforms:
- Experience in large-scale platform engineering.
- Experience in application development and integration within cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Understanding of the Machine Learning Ecosystem, with hands-on experience using frameworks like Airflow, Jupyterlab, Jupyterhub, or MLFlow.
- Experience with object-oriented design and coding using Python and its related frameworks.
- Proficiency in Linux.
- Understanding and experience with UNIX/Shell scripting.
- Proficiency in distributed systems concepts such as load balancing, sharding, and distributed transactions.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
Good To Have:
- Experience building fast and scalable machine learning and analytical algorithms, managing them from design through deployment and monitoring.
- Experience in developing web services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.
- Experience working with distributed systems using Spark and Hive in a Hadoop production environment at significant scale.
Functional:
- Familiarity with design and coding across multiple platforms and languages.
