AI Data Scientist - Pune, India

Johnson Controls is seeking an experienced AI Data Scientist to join our dynamic Data Strategy & Intelligence team in Pune, India. As buildings become increasingly connected, generating vast amounts of data, we are leveraging AI to create intelligent enterprise solutions. This role is crucial in developing and deploying advanced machine learning, Generative AI, and time series analysis models into production.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of machine learning concepts, including Large Language Models (LLMs) – their training, optimization, and deployment. Hands-on experience in developing and deploying ML/Generative AI/time series models in production environments is essential.

What You Will Do

• Develop and maintain AI algorithms and capabilities for our digital products, utilizing data from commercial buildings.
• Apply machine learning, GenAI, and advanced algorithms to optimize building energy consumption, occupancy, reduce CO2 emissions, and enhance user comfort.
• Generate actionable insights to improve building operations and translate data into direct recommendations for stakeholders.
• Ensure robust and repeatable outcomes for AI solutions through well-designed algorithms and software.
• Apply machine learning concepts to practical applications, effectively handling the challenges of real-world datasets.

How You Will Do It

• Contribute to the AI team with assigned tasks and responsibilities.
• Collaborate with product managers to design new AI capabilities.
• Explore and analyze available datasets to identify potential applications.
• Design and develop ML/Generative AI/Timeseries Prediction solutions that address complex business requirements.
• Integrate AI capabilities into existing products in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Research and implement state-of-the-art techniques in generative AI solutions.
• Develop and maintain AI model integration pipelines.
• Pre-train and fine-tune ML models on GPU clusters, optimizing for trade-offs.

What We Look For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience developing and deploying ML models with a proven record of delivering production-ready solutions.
• Expert proficiency in Python and standard ML libraries such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, Transformers, and FastAPI/Django.
• Strong understanding of ML algorithms and techniques, including Regression, Classification, Clustering, Deep Learning, NLP/Transformer models, LLMs, and Time-series prediction models.
• Proficiency in developing SOA LLM frameworks and models (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Meta LLAMA), advanced prompt engineering, LLM fine-tuning/training, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems.
• Experience working with engineering teams for deploying ML/LLM models into production, including model observability and monitoring.
• Experience with cloud-based ML/GenAI model development and deployment on AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior domain experience in Smart Buildings and Energy Optimization.
• Experience working with Azure Cloud.
