HomeServices of America is seeking a dedicated Title Underwriter to join our team in Winston-Salem, NC. This crucial role involves meticulously reviewing title research and issuing commitments for both residential and commercial properties. You will be responsible for drafting title commitments, issuing policies, and efficiently handling customer inquiries, all while rigorously adhering to established underwriting procedures and ensuring compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting and recommending title commitments and policies (60-65%).
- Reviewing preliminary opinions of title from closing attorneys, underwriting them by applying requirements, determining exceptions, and setting insurance coverage amounts.
- Issuing title commitments and incorporating requested revisions from closing attorneys before closing.
- Issuing final title policies upon receipt of the final opinion of title from closing attorneys.
- Responding to phone inquiries regarding searches for prior policies, premium quotes, and underwriting questions (10-15%).
- Receiving and applying premium payments, posting payments, and preparing bank deposits (10-15%).
- Issuing commitment revisions and policy endorsements (10-15%).
- Compiling information for monthly reporting to title companies for which policies are issued (0-5%).
- Maintaining an organized notebook for quick access to current underwriting requirements and exceptions (0-5%).
- Performing other duties as requested or assigned (0-5%).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is a minimum requirement.
- One to two years of experience in office administration or the insurance industry.
- Proficiency in business software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
- Flexibility and capability to manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure.
- A high degree of integrity, self-motivation, attention to detail, and a strong aptitude for figures.
