Job Overview: Staff Software Engineer

PayPal is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer for the PayPal Commerce Platform (PPCP) Team. This primarily backend role requires expertise in frameworks and advocating for best practices, acting as a cross-team influencer.

Responsibilities:

• Develop efficient, clean, reusable code.
• Mentor other engineers.

• Create/review detailed design documents.

Qualifications:

• 9+ years of experience in Java, Spring Core, and Spring Batch.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Node/React is a plus.
• Deep understanding of object-oriented design and development.
• Expertise in designing and developing data-intensive applications for scalability.
• Experience with high-traffic backend services.
• Proficiency in software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience collaborating with business users.
• Experience in a Unix-based environment is a plus.
• Knowledge of scripting languages like Unix Shell, Perl, Python is a plus.
• Experience in application performance fine-tuning is a plus.
• Experience with unit testing (JUnit) and functional testing.
• Experience using industry-standard software development tools.
• Strong debugging and problem resolution skills.
• Expertise in online payments is a plus.
• Focus on test-driven development and automation.
• Experience in Agile development with Scrum.
• Ability to refactor and rewrite code.
• Identify and avoid performance bottlenecks.
