Staff Database Engineer - MongoDB, SQL, Kafka

Visa, a world leader in payments technology, seeks a Staff Database Engineer in Bengaluru. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining robust data solutions, with a focus on SQL, Kafka, and AMQ. The successful candidate will work in a data-driven environment, contributing to scalable systems that impact lives globally.

Responsibilities:

• Design, write, and optimize SQL queries and database schemas.
• Monitor and tune database performance.
• Ensure data integrity and security across all SQL operations.
• Build, maintain, and scale Kafka topics and configurations.
• Develop and optimize Kafka producers and consumers.
• Implement monitoring and troubleshooting for Kafka clusters.
• Manage and configure AMQ messaging components.
• Develop and maintain message producers/consumers for AMQ.
• Oversee the reliability and fault-tolerance of messaging systems.
• Collaborate on event-driven architectures and system integration.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 7+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5+ years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3+ years of work experience with a PhD, OR 7+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expert proficiency in SQL and database design.
• Hands-on experience managing and operating Kafka clusters.
• Experience building and maintaining Kafka producers and consumers.
• Experience with AMQ or similar messaging platforms.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts.
• Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized environments.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
