Software Developer - DESIM

Join D. E. Shaw as a Software Developer focused on the DESIM (likely referring to Desired Simulation or a similar internal system) team. This role is critical in designing and building sophisticated portfolio analytics and quantitative tools that are central to the firm's trading lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with portfolio managers, traders, quants, and strategists, gaining deep exposure to financial domain concepts and contributing to mission-critical systems within our Hyderabad, Gurugram, and Bengaluru offices.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with portfolio managers, traders, quants, and strategists to develop technology solutions that support front-office objectives.
• Design and implement complex systems and highly efficient tools for portfolio analytics, optimization, and risk assessment.
• Construct scalable libraries and backend systems designed for storing and processing substantial volumes of business data.
• Enhance the efficiency of the trading lifecycle through the application of advanced technology.
• Engage in quantitative tool development, address big-data optimization challenges, and focus on system scalability.
• Implement robust data governance, validation, and observability practices to ensure data quality and regulatory compliance.
• Cultivate expertise across backend technologies and contribute to frontend development as needed.
• Uphold rigorous standards for software quality, architecture, and performance.

What You'll Bring

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, coupled with 2–8 years of relevant professional experience.
• Exceptional proficiency in Python or comparable programming languages.
• A strong foundational understanding of software engineering principles, including data structures, algorithms, software architecture, design patterns, and debugging techniques.
• A keen quantitative aptitude and proven analytical problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience working within Agile development methodologies and a commitment to strong coding discipline.
• Familiarity with databases, financial domain concepts, or frontend technologies is considered an advantage.
• Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to work autonomously with a focus on detail, ownership, and task completion.
