Amazon is a global leader in e-commerce and technology, seeking a highly skilled Simulation Scientist to join their innovative Last Mile Solutions Engineering team in Bellevue, WA. This pivotal role involves leading the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge simulation data science solutions. Your expertise will drive innovation and significantly improve operational processes across the organization, impacting long-term product, business, and functional strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of discrete event simulation (DES) data science solutions for highly complex operational processes using industry-standard software (e.g., FlexSim, Demo 3D, AnyLogic).
- Spearhead strategic modeling and simulation research projects to inform and guide process design decisions.
- Serve as an exemplary practitioner in simulation science, establishing best practices to accelerate simulation development and ensure high standards.
- Identify and resolve intrinsically challenging process flow simulation problems characterized by complexity, ambiguity, or significant business risk.
- Produce high-quality deliverables that set organizational standards, encompassing algorithm design, validation, implementation, and technical documentation.
- Act as a pragmatic problem solver, applying judgment and simulation expertise to balance cross-organizational trade-offs and influence stakeholders effectively.
- Provide critical simulation data and insights that shape organizational business strategy, authoring comprehensive white papers and documentation.
- Lead and actively participate in simulation research science solution reviews, clarifying complexity, probing assumptions, and fostering shared understanding within the simulation data science community.
- Contribute significantly to the career development of others through active mentoring and educating the broader simulation data science community on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Utilize advanced statistical and simulation tools, developing custom code (Python or other object-oriented languages) for data analysis, simulation, and modeling algorithm development.
- Lead and coordinate simulation efforts with internal teams and external vendors to optimize network solutions, including equipment specification, material flow logic, process design, and site layout.
- Deliver project outcomes reliably according to established schedules and quality standards.
Qualifications:
- PhD or Master's degree in a quantitative field with 4+ years of research experience.
- Proven experience investigating the application of scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in R, MATLAB, Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience with agile development methodologies.
- Experience building web-based dashboards using common frameworks.
