About Zenara Health Engineering
Zenara Health is a rapidly growing, technology-focused mental healthcare company committed to enhancing access and quality of mental wellness services. We develop AI-driven platforms that integrate expert clinical care to provide personalized and effective solutions. As a dynamic startup, we prioritize initiative and ownership over traditional departmental structures. We are building multiple products spanning the entire clinical workflow, from AI-driven assessments to care coordination.
About The Role: Take Ownership and Drive Innovation
This is a pivotal Senior Software Engineer role for a self-driven individual, not for those who wait for explicit task assignments. You will serve as a counterpart to our Lead Engineer, collaborating closely to understand and take full ownership of critical platform subsystems within 90 days. Expect a rapid progression from apprentice to co-owner, owner, and eventually architect, contributing significantly to our core architecture and new product development.
We seek an engineer who demonstrates deep experience in delivering complex production SaaS applications, thinks architecturally, and leverages AI tools like Claude Code or GitHub Copilot daily to achieve 2-3x typical development speed. While you'll gain healthcare domain knowledge (billing codes, HIPAA, clinical workflows) organically from our physician-CEO, strong engineering intuition—knowing when to refactor, designing maintainable systems, and taking initiative—is paramount.
Key Responsibilities & Progression:
- Month 1 (Apprentice): Rapidly absorb expertise and understand intricate, essential platform components.
- Month 2 (Co-owner): Begin shared leadership and ownership of specific subsystems.
- Month 3 (Owner): Take full ownership and responsibility for entire subsystems.
- Month 4+ (Architect): Influence architectural decisions and lead new product development.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: 4-8 years in full-stack software engineering, specifically shipping production SaaS applications (not agency websites or internal tools).
- TypeScript Mastery: Proficient in advanced TypeScript concepts including generics, utility types, strict mode, and discriminated unions.
- Frontend Expertise: Strong experience with React + Next.js in production environments, covering SSR, API routes, dynamic routing, and performance optimization.
- Backend Proficiency: Solid Node.js skills, including REST APIs, authentication, middleware, error handling, and background job management.
- Database Acumen: Experience with Prisma ORM + PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, query optimization, and relation modeling.
- Git Mastery: Expert understanding of branching strategies, clean commit history, PR workflows, and rebasing.
- AI-Assisted Development: Daily engagement with AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) and the ability to articulate their impact on your development process.
- Self-Motivation: Thrive in autonomous environments, proactively identifying and executing necessary tasks without constant supervision.
- Communication: Strong English communication skills, with an async-first approach demonstrated through clear written documentation, PR descriptions, and technical decision records.
Strongly Preferred Skills:
- Experience with healthcare SaaS (billing, EHR, clinical workflows, HIPAA compliance).
- Familiarity with FHIR/HL7 standards.
- Knowledge of Server-Sent Events (SSE) or WebSocket real-time architecture.
- Understanding of multi-tenant SaaS security (RBAC, row-level security, tenant isolation).
- Experience with Azure cloud services (App Service, Azure SQL, Blob Storage).
- A quick learner for complex domain knowledge.
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of behavioral health or medical billing (CPT, ICD-10).
- Experience with AI/ML pipeline integration.
- Familiarity with startup environments and small engineering teams.
Work Schedule:
This role requires maintaining 4-8 hours of daily overlap with the US Pacific time zone (9am-5pm PT), typically translating to approximately 2pm-12am IST. Your mornings are flexible for deep coding sessions, with evenings dedicated to US team collaboration. We prioritize output and collaboration, offering flexibility for you to propose your optimal schedule, provided the overlap is maintained.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary range of ₹20-40 LPA.
- Fully remote work flexibility within India.
- Equipment allowance and budget for continuous learning (tools, courses, conferences).
- Direct communication and mentorship from the Lead Engineer and Founder-CEO.
- Encouraged use of AI tools to maximize productivity.
- Immediate opportunity to manage and shape key subsystems within a rapidly evolving healthcare organization.
