About the Job:
Title: Rust Developer (Remote)
Engagement: Hourly contract (independent contractor)
Location: Remote – candidates based in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Singapore, Dubai, or Australia who are legally able to work as independent contractors in their jurisdiction.
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Rust Backend Developer to support the testing and evaluation of AI-powered developer tools. In this role, you will design and maintain backend services while collaborating with engineering and research teams to assess how AI models perform in real-world software development workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs using Rust
- Implement data validation, error handling, and API security best practices
- Manage database migrations, schema updates, and performance optimization
- Test AI-assisted development tools and document findings through structured reports
- Participate in scheduled testing cycles and provide detailed technical feedback
- Collaborate with engineering and research teams via Slack
- Complete surveys and technical evaluations following testing sessions
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in Rust
- Experience building RESTful and GraphQL APIs
- Knowledge of database design, migrations, and performance tuning
- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Contributions to open-source projects
- Experience evaluating or developing developer tools
- Interest in applied AI for software engineering
