Quality Engineer - Howmet Aerospace, La Porte, IN

Howmet Aerospace, a premier global provider of advanced engineered solutions for the aerospace and transportation industries, is seeking a motivated Quality Engineer for its La Porte, Indiana facility. This role offers the opportunity to lead process improvement initiatives, ensure strict adherence to quality standards, and cultivate strong relationships within the business operations team and with external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct internal audits and manage corrective and preventative action systems to assess business system health against customer and industry standards.
  • Foster collaborative relationships internally and externally to drive engagement and customer satisfaction.
  • Apply strong quantitative and qualitative skills to identify and overcome challenges in a demanding environment.
  • Proactively implement problem-solving and corrective/preventative action methodologies.
  • Manage multiple tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate business acumen, including understanding financial impacts of quality and employing A3 thinking.
  • Utilize practical knowledge of manufacturing processes to analyze problems and facilitate solutions.
  • Apply production operation knowledge across manufacturing, inspection, engineering, and customer interaction.
  • Align quality objectives with overall company business goals.
  • Effectively apply problem-solving methodologies to achieve positive business outcomes.
  • Uphold Howmet values in all professional interactions.
  • Leverage experience with ISO 9000 and/or AS9100, Statistical Tools, APQP, and Measurement System Analysis.
  • Coordinate and execute corrective, preventative, and systemic action plans for process improvement.
  • Maintain professional composure and objectivity when addressing complex issues.
  • Ensure adherence to customer specifications and drawings with a focus on cost-effective application.
  • Interpret blueprints and customer requirements, ensuring effective flowdown.
  • Serve as a customer interface, understanding and deploying customer requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits effectively.
  • Be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Possess understanding of non-destructive validation methodologies (Visual, x-ray, penetrant) and Nadcap requirements if applicable.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Utilize basic computer skills, with opportunities to develop advanced skills.
  • Understand regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively in written, verbal, and non-verbal formats to all organizational levels.
  • Engage productively with both internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, active listening, and responsiveness to communication.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Comply with all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) rules.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in an Engineering, Quality, or Manufacturing role (including co-op or internship).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to obtain access to export-controlled items is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Three (3) years of relevant audit experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with AS9100.
  • Demonstrated ethical standards, data-driven decision-making, business savvy, bias for action, and mentorship skills.
