Internal Auditor - NYC Metro Area
Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies, a leading provider of Property & Casualty insurance products and services, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Internal Auditor to join our team in the NYC Metro Area. This critical role will deliver independent insight, conduct comprehensive risk-based audits, and champion continuous improvement across our internal controls and operational processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide independent, objective assurance and advisory services through a variety of internal audit activities.
- Conduct consulting engagements designed to add value, mitigate risk, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Meticulously review existing processes and procedures to identify and evaluate potential risks and control weaknesses.
- Test internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance with policies and regulations, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Assess opportunities to strengthen the overall control framework and drive greater organizational efficiency.
- Monitor departmental and organizational compliance with established policies and relevant regulations.
- Communicate audit findings and recommendations clearly and effectively to management.
- Promote an ethical culture and support adherence to company standards and best practices.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, managing assigned audits from planning through to final reporting.
- Contribute to the development of company policies and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of direct Internal Audit experience, specifically within the P&C insurance industry, is required.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field is mandatory.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential for clear reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and management.
- Demonstrated exceptional analytical skills and a keen attention to detail.
- Proven ability to identify operational risks and develop practical, effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to complete audits and assignments in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Ability to effectively meet with and present to Business Unit Management, discussing issues and implementing recommendations.
- Possession of a proactive, 'Action Oriented Can-Do' attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A professional auditing certification (e.g., CIA, CISA) is considered a significant asset.
