Backend Platform Engineer (2-5 Years)

We are seeking a Backend Platform Engineer with 2-5 years of experience to join our team in Kolkata. This role involves implementing and extending backend services within a shared enterprise platform that powers ERP and SAP-integrated transport systems.

The primary focus will be on building robust APIs, efficient workflows, and seamless integrations, all while adhering to defined architectural standards. You will gradually take ownership of moderately complex backend components and contribute to the evolution of our platform.

While AI tools can be utilized to accelerate development, you will be responsible for ensuring the correctness and compliance of all implemented solutions.

Core Responsibilities

• Backend Feature Implementation: Implement backend services based on approved designs, extend workflows and approval systems safely, and build configurable, reusable logic modules, avoiding hard-coded business assumptions.
• Workflow Implementation & Reliability: Correctly implement state transitions within workflow engines, adhere to defined transaction and retry policies, and ensure idempotent behavior for APIs and integrations. Handle edge cases like duplicate requests, timeout retries, and partial external failures.
• API & Database Development: Develop REST APIs following platform standards and implement relational database schemas and queries. Apply input validation, structured error handling, standardized logging, and maintain backward compatibility for APIs.
• Integration Support: Implement integration logic for SAP interfaces, CRM systems, and external services (e.g., GPS, messaging). Follow defined contracts and reconciliation rules, and test integration flows under various failure scenarios.
• Testing & Quality: Write comprehensive unit tests, integration tests, and workflow scenario tests. Validate logic against edge cases before QA handoff and promptly fix defects identified during QA and UAT.
• AI-Assisted Development: Leverage AI tools for tasks such as generating boilerplate code, drafting APIs, improving test coverage, and assisting with debugging. Independently validate all AI-generated code for correctness and compliance.

Required Experience

• 2–5 years of backend development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following stacks: Node.js, Java, or .NET.
• Working knowledge of REST APIs, relational databases, transaction handling, and basic integration concepts.
• Comfortable working in structured enterprise environments.
