Billing Appeals Specialist

Jackson Lewis P.C., a distinguished law firm specializing in employment and labor law with a nationwide presence since 1958, seeks a dedicated Billing Appeals Specialist. This role is pivotal in managing the appeals process for insurance carriers’ invoices. You will collaborate closely with attorneys and staff to ensure the accurate and timely submission of appeals, while actively promoting adherence to best practices in billing guidelines. Key responsibilities include drafting compelling narratives for attorney approval to maximize appeal success rates, diligently managing all appeal deadlines to ensure optimal client recovery, and proactively sending exception reports with timely follow-up reminders for appeal language. You will maintain a comprehensive appeal log to meticulously track invoice status and outstanding accounts receivable. Furthermore, you will act as a liaison for the Finance Department, communicating with in-house attorneys to address invoice inquiries and provide clarity on the appeal process. Collaboration with the Appeals Team, its Director, and Billing & Collections is essential to identify opportunities for reducing invoice reductions under Outside Counsel Guidelines, and to stay abreast of evolving insurance carrier guidelines and their impact on current processes. This position also involves active participation in process improvement initiatives, including evaluating existing firm protocols by addressing daily questions and issues, and identifying opportunities for enhancements to training and protocols to prevent future challenges. A high level of customer service is paramount, ensuring exceptional support is provided to the firm’s Principals and clients on both an individual and team basis.
