Qualifications
Experience Level: Mid Level
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or enrollment/documented intent to complete BSN within two years; or, eight or more years of current equivalent clinical experience
- More than two years of progressively more responsible nursing experience
- Management experience, preferred
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Michigan
- Analytical ability and clinical knowledge necessary to make recommendations concerning the development of departmental policies, goals, budgets and staffing needs
- Ability to change job-related work practices/priorities/procedures and reschedule activities in response to changing work conditions
- Ability to work productively and effectively in a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and deal with stress associated with a patient care environment (e.g., medical emergencies, staffing fluctuations, time commitments, varying patient emotions, attitudes, conditions, etc.)
- Ability to adapt to technologies used in the work environment
- Interpersonal skills necessary to establish/maintain effective communication provide leadership for departmental personnel and develop/maintain productive working relationships with other departments, medical staff and the community
- Leadership and educational skills to assist in meeting the needs of staff in accordance with departmental goals/objectives
Full Job Description
DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking an Admin Supervisor for Patient Services to ensure outstanding customer service and medical care. This contingent role requires an individual to serve as a critical liaison during designated shifts, focusing on effective problem-solving and decision-making for both management and staff. The supervisor will also be responsible for ensuring strict adherence to all relevant regulations and hospital policies. Key responsibilities include acting as an administrative bridge between various departments during off-shifts, weekends, and holidays, making crucial decisions regarding staff and patient placement, and facilitating interdepartmental issue resolution. Maintaining a high level of visibility and accessibility to staff, promoting shared decision-making, and assigning pool and agency personnel are also core functions. This role collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to optimize patient care delivery and is expected to be available for on-call duties, potentially working across multiple facilities. Adherence to HCA Healthcare's leadership actions and the DMC's Customer Service Standards is paramount, as is the interpretation and implementation of hospital and nursing policies. The supervisor will actively participate in staff development, collaborate on educational programs, conduct patient care area rounds to evaluate progress, and adjust staffing as needed in conjunction with unit management. Monitoring staff interactions, serving as a patient care resource, responding to emergencies, facilitating patient transfers, and assisting with staff orientation, training, and evaluation are also essential duties. Mentoring new staff, collaborating on unit goals, initiating disciplinary action when necessary, and serving on committees are further expectations. Participation in performance improvement activities and maintaining competency are shared accountabilities.
