Avōq, a prominent advocacy firm in Washington, D.C., is actively seeking an experienced Accountant to join its dynamic Finance team. This crucial role involves the comprehensive management of operational accounting functions, providing essential support during the month-end close process, and ensuring strict adherence to all financial regulations and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all operational accounting functions, including detailed client billing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processes.
  • Actively participate in the month-end close process, which includes managing employee timesheets and expense reports, preparing and posting journal entries, and performing thorough general ledger reconciliations.
  • Provide timely and accurate accounting support and respond to inquiries from various business units.
  • Maintain revenue trackers, conduct detailed cost of sales analysis, and contribute to the preparation of comprehensive management reports.
  • Ensure the timely dispatch of monthly invoices and manage other critical financial deadlines.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, focusing on refining and streamlining accounting procedures to enhance overall efficiency and accuracy.
  • Respond to tax-related inquiries and correspondence from federal, state, and local tax authorities, external auditors, and internal teams, assisting in the resolution of any issues.
  • Prepare for various tax-related matters such as 1099s, business and occupational license taxes, property taxes, and sales taxes, while diligently maintaining tax and filing deadlines.
  • Uphold compliance and internal controls by ensuring strict adherence to established policies, procedures, and financial regulations.
  • Support and maintain comprehensive documentation for all processes, procedures, and controls.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as a motivated team player to contribute to departmental and organizational success.
  • Collaborate with the financial team to develop and implement robust internal controls and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 3-5 years of public accounting experience in a similar role.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, data review, organizational, and time management skills, coupled with an unwavering attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with expense reporting software, specifically 'Ramp'.
  • Proven ability to accurately manage multiple assignments, objectives, and reporting requests simultaneously.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and macros, as well as Word and PowerPoint.
